Francesco D'Errico Trio

Over the time the work of Francesco D'Errico focused mainly on formations of medium size, such as quartets and quintets, or on larger formations, exploring orchestral compostion and the practices of improvisation up to “conduction”.
The choice of founding a trio manifests instead the need to explore one's musical world through one of the more essential instruments of jazz tradition. Piano, double bass and drums only. This personnel is for jazz what the string quartet is for European art music. Through the trio music can be explored in its most dry essence. The trio, so classic and so modern, is a place where musicians meet without mediations, where the roles of instruments cross each other and transform ever in expressive search for timbers, sound solutions, coarseness, silk and rocks. Therefore every successful trio, in spite of the same components, always expresses an original sound, renewed and to be discovered.
The musicians, with their artistic story and their being persons, inevitably make the trio unique, for better or worse. The challenge in setting up a trio lies in the ability of musician to offer their musical horizons with concentration, and sincerity of expression and of musical thought. The original pieces and the new arrangement of pieces from other musical traditions become materials to express the trio's sound, performance after performance: that's the artistic commitment taken to give meaning and completeness to this particular trio
